We support Canadian mills and the majority of our bases come from a mill in Ontario using fibre sourced from around the world (many breeds do not like our climate).
Because of the tariffs, we are very concerned that a number of indie dyers in the USA will no longer be supporting our Canadian mill due to the increased costs that they will then need to pass on to their customers. If our mill closes due to decreased sales, this will have a ripple effect, and mills globally will be under pressure due to the increased demand, similar to what was experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic. By purchasing yarn from us, you are helping to keep a Canadian mill open!
ALL HAND DYED YARN & FIBRE IS DYED ON SITE IN SHERWOOD PARK, AB.
The following yarn and fibre bases (all weights) come from the Canadian mill and is wound into skeins on site:
- Amesbury
- Barbury
- Broadmoore
- Fosbury
- Georgian
- Glenbrooke
- Hawthorne
- Salisbury
- Strathcona
- Tisbury
- Woodbridge
The following yarn bases come from a US mill. These products still have a significant amount of labour completed in Canada:
- Athabascan - (we are going to source this from a UK supplier once our stock has run out, as it is unavailable from our Canadian supplier)
- Newbury - no other replacements available, and our plan is to no longer stock this until the trade war is over.
Dyes used in hand dyed yarn are all sourced from the USA, and we buy directly from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, switching to a different manufacturer would mean that every colourway would no longer be duplicatable, so we will need to continue using this source. We did place a very large dye order before tariffs were introduced so that we can hopefully ride this out without the price of dyes increasing the manufacturing costs of the dyed yarn.
Fyberrings are made in Saskatchewan by a small Canadian business.
Soak laundry soap is made in Canada.
ChiaoGoo is manufactured in China and is sourced from a Canadian distributor.
All Ashford products come from New Zealand through a Canadian distributor.
Our yarn bling - Rico Make it Tweed is made in the UK, and King Cole Cosmos is made in Turkey.
Other items that are made or distributed from the US that we cannot source through other means at this time include many books, Doodle Decks, Furls, & Addi.
Please remember that purchasing products that are not made in Canada still support our Canadian small business and our employees, as well as countries that are still our allies and trade partners. We have invested money into our US sourced products before tariffs were introduced, and will not be purchasing them from US sources while tariffs remain in place so that we do not have to pass the increased cost to the consumer.
