September 16, 11:00 - 6:00 pm - Have you heard about FyberRing? These handy little resin rings help you keep consistent tension while preventing irritation on your finger where the yarn rubs while you knit or crochet! Come in and find the size and style you need during our pop up!

Beginner Crochet - Level 3 with Susan Chin

September 10, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Now that you know how to work all the basic stitches in crochet, it’s time to learn how to shape your fabric! We’ll teach you some of the common methods to increase and decrease a stitch to change the shape of the crocheted fabric. 

Intermediate Crochet - Level 1 with Susan Chin

September 17 & 24, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Once you’re familiar with basic stitching in crochet and can work these with ease, learning to crochet in the round is a great skill to have. We’ll crochet a pair of fingerless mittens, learning one type of in-the-round crocheting, how to read your stitches and a few handy in-progress and finishing tips.

Beginner Knitting - Level 2

September 22, 29, & October 6, 2024, 1:00 - 3:00 pm

This three-part class will build on your knitting skills. In the first class, you’ll learn a new stitch (purl), review the knitted cast-on and knit a stockinette fabric. The second and third class will review the knitted bind-off, cover a new cast-on (cable cast-on), a new bind-off (bind off in pattern), join new yarn, and how to work a 1 x 1 rib fabric. We’ll introduce different ways to use stitch markers, how to measure a fabric’s gauge and the first steps in finishing – how to block your work.

Frame Loom Weaving & Social Night with Serah Hedin

September 27, 2024, 5:30 - 9:30 pm

This introductory weaving course will have you learning all you need to know about weaving on a frame loom, in a fun social environment that includes a build you own taco salad dinner. The perfect night out with friends!

Introduction to Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom with Serah Hedin

September 28 & 29, 10:00 - 1:00 pm

Learn the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. This 4 hour class will cover how to dress the loom and how to weaving with a plain weave structure. Finishing techniques including hemstitching and fringe will also be covered. By the end of the class, students will have the confidence to continue weaving and working towards the completion of a woven scarf. Loom rentals available.

Beginner Crochet - Level 1 with Susan Chin

October 1, 8, & 15, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Our two-part introduction to crochet class covers a few basic stitches (chain, single crochet, back loop only, front loop only), how to make a slip knot and read a pattern. We’ll talk about the crocheted fabric in the first session, make a slip knot, chain and single crochet. The second session, covers how to problem solve errors, work single crochet stitches through the back/front loop only, how to join new yarn, weave in ends and introduce different ways to use stitch markers.

Go Go Dynamo MKAL hosted by Susan Chin

October 3, 10, 17, 24, & 31, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Every fall, Stephen West of Westknits releases his Mystery Knit-A-Long (MKAL). This year's shawl is titled Go Go Dynamo. Every week for 5 weeks, starting October 3, a new clue is released for you to work on. By popular request, we have decided to run a MKAL group that is timed with the release dates of each clue.

Our expert knitting instructor, Susan Chin will be hosting the group, and will be able to answer any questions that you may have during the MKAL. She has done several test knits for Westknits as well, so is very familiar with the way the pattern will be written, and will be a great help along the way. We will also have a group set up for MKAL discussions between sessions.

Continental Knitting with Susan Chin

Oct `19, 2024, 10:00 - 12:00 pm

Continental knitting is a method of knitting that uses the left hand to carry your working yarn. Some will find this method more ergonomic and a faster way to knit. Students will learn how to knit and purl in continental. Students will be taught to knit right- or left-handed, which ever they're comfortable with.

Advanced Knitting: Brioche with Susan Chin 

October 19, 26, & November 2, 2024, 10:00 - 12:00 pm

In this three-session class, we will examine the 1x1 brioche stitch, and how it looks when knit in one and two colours. Understanding how the stitch is made will help identify problems and how to fix mistakes in brioche. Other skills you will learn: make one right/left knit, make one right/left purl and best practices for weaving in ends in a brioche fabric. 

Intermediate Knitting - Level 4: Thrummed Mittens with Susan Chin 

October 20 & 27, 2024, 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Learn how to knit a pair of mittens and the technique of adding lengths of roving/carded wool to your knitting. The thrums create a soft woolly lining and a plush decorative stitch on the outside of the mitten. We will be using a Thrummed Mittens pattern that includes three sizes, one child & two adult sizes. You can choose the size you would like to knit, just be sure to have enough materials for the size you’ve chosen to knit.

Beginner Crochet - Level 2 with Susan Chin

October 22, 29, & November 5, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

This three-part class will build on your crochet skills. In the first class, you’ll learn a new stitch (half double crochet), review different places (under both loops, front/back loop only) where stitches can be worked. The second and third class will two new stitches (double and treble crochet), chain spaces and its uses, and how to join a new colour to your work. We’ll also introduce how to measure a fabric’s gauge and the first steps in finishing – how to block your work.

Beginner Knitting - Level 3 with Susan Chin

November 9, 2024, 10:00 - 12:00 pm

Now that you can knit, purl, cast-on, and bind-off, it’s time to learn a few basic shaping skills! We’ll teach you some of the common methods to increase and decrease a stitch to change the shape of the knitted fabric. We’ll knit a square that starts from one corner and finish at the opposite corner. 

Knit & Crochet Project Class hosted by Susan Chin

November 12, 19 26, December 3, & 10, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Now that you've completed (at minimum) the Beginner levels in Knitting and/or Crochet at Numana Yarns, it's time to start a project. This session is great for those who are comfortable with their basic stitches (sl st, ch, sc, hdc, dc and tr in crochet; k, p, ssk, k2tog, kfb, knitted CO & BO in knitting) and would like some help with a project. 

Intermediate Knitting - Level 1 with Susan Chin

November 16 & 23, 2024, 10:00 - 12:00 pm

Learn to knit in the round in this two-part class with double pointed needles. We’ll knit a pair of fingerless mittens where we will show you how to set up your cast-on over double pointed needles, ways to join in the round, and cover a few handy in-progress and finishing tips.

This show is in its second year, but we will be joining for the first time! Can't wait to see you!

Recurring Events

Yarn n' Yak

Bring a project to work on, visit with other fibre lovers, and show off some finished projects. If you are taking Saturday morning class, feel free to stay after to continue working on your project - we have a small fridge and microwave in the class area if you'd like to bring lunch, or there are several restraunts in the area.

Join us anytime between 1:00 - 4:00 on most Saturdays (events such as pop ups will cancel Yarn N' Yak). Please see the calendar for dates.
