Quiet, We're Going North

Quiet, We're Going North

This is a phrase my grandad would say during road trips when my mom and her sisters were younger. When the girls started getting too chatty in the backseat, he would say this and they would immediately be quiet, peering out the window to try and see why going north required silence. I don't know how it worked, but apparently it did!

I didn't realize it when I first picked the colours to dye it, but the end result looks so similar to a dress my grandma had made for herself, and a scarf she made for my mom out of the left over material. It had those same deep blues and browns with a touch of the lilac. One day I'll have to look through old family photos, because I'm sure there is a picture of her wearing that dress, and I'd love to compare.
